Treasury 'bullish' on early start to €80m Wine St. plan

DEVELOPERS Treasury Holdings remain "bullish" about making a start this year on their shopping centre development in the Wine Street car park.

The €80 million project promises 500 jobs in the construction phase and another 500 in the new shopping centre and multi-storey car park.

Treasury's project manager Niall Kavanagh said this week that despite the economic downturn there was still great interest from retailers in the scheme.

"The banking and funding situation is difficult but once you have good
retailer interest it makes everything possible." He said his biggest challenge is to get all the property owners in the Wine Street car park area "singing off the same hymn sheet".
"We are talking to all the affected parties in the car park trying to map a way forward. There are complexities involved but I am still bullish about making a start as early as possible in 2009."
He was speaking following the granting of planning permission last week for a new temporary car park on the outskirts of Sligo. It is intended to alleviate the shortfall in parking in the town centre during the construction of the Wine Street car park development.

Situated off the Summerhill roundabout on the Inner Relief road to the real' of Nazareth House, the car park is in-tended to be used for a maximum of four years. There will be space for 239 cars.
Mr Kavanagh said that the plan was that it would be used by construction workers and that retailers in the town would also encourage staff to use it so that town centre parking would be left free for shoppers.

Treasury, through their subsidiary Callside Developments, were finally granted planning permission at the end of last year for the Centre Block development after a six year saga of various twists and turns. The plan involves 30 shops, 27 apartments and office space. There will also be a multi-storey car park, which will be linked to a car park planned by Dunnes Stores as part of the re-development of their Adelaide Street store to provide around 1,000 spaces.
